Hammond’s Krewe of Omega Mardi Gras parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
A safe, family-friendly, drug-, alcohol- and tobacco-free area called “In the Zone” will be on North General Pershing Street, between the Pennington Center and the Southeastern Louisiana University Lab School, starting at 4:30 p.m. until the parade starts at 6:30 p.m., a news release from Tangipahoa-Reshaping Attitudes for Community Change Coalition said.
The TRACC Coalition has partnered with the Southeastern student group Peeps to host this year’s event. Many of TRACC’s member agencies, including Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco Free Living, Louisiana Healthy Communities Coalition, Keeping Every Youth Safe Alliance Youth Group, Florida Parishes Human Services Authority, Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa and others, will be helping with the event, the release said.
Those in the area will not be allowed to smoke, drink or use drugs, the release said. Games and prizes for children, popcorn and treats will be available, the release said.
