Southeastern Louisiana University’s College of Science and Technology honored students for outstanding academic performance at the college’s honors convocation held April 29.

The college and the Southeastern Alumni Association also honored Col. John Whidden as its Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. Whidden earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SLU in physiology and biochemistry.

His military experience includes 40 years in the U.S. Army Special Forces as a Green Beret civil affairs officer. He also served in senior U.S. government positions on many National Homeland Security and international U.N. joint defense projects. His awards include the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star.

Awards were presented to the following students from Livingston and Tangipahoa parishes:

Livingston Parish

Walker: Christopher Cole Bass, outstanding graduating senior in occupational safety, health and environment.

Tangipahoa Parish

Hammond: Blake Matherne, outstanding senior in biological sciences; Sushovit Adhikari, outsanding graduating senior in physics; Vincent Glorioso, outstanding graduating senior in mathematics; Sunil Shahi and Saket Khatiwada, outstanding graduating seniors in computer science.

Independence: Trent Lott, outstanding graduating senior in engineering technology.

Loranger: Anthony Haase, outstanding senior in biological sciences.
