The William W. Perkins WWII Weekend, which honors servicemen and women, will be April 10 and April 11.
The weekend will begin at 7:30 p.m. April 10 with a tribute USO show dedicated to the Hollywood Canteen at The Old South Jamboree, 9554 Florida Blvd., Walker.
The Hollywood Canteen was a servicemen’s club that was completely staffed by Hollywood stars and starlets, a news release from organizers said. The Spotlight Theater Players and the swing band Rosie and The Swingin’ Riveters also will perform. The show includes actors and actresses portraying Frances Langford, Connie Haines, Frank Sinatra and Blondie and Dagwood, the release said. Tickets for the show are $10 and will be available at the door.
The weekend will continue at 8:45 a.m. April 11 at Sidney Hutchinson Park, 13750 Ball Park Road, Walker. The day will feature Axis and Allied camps, military vehicles, living history displays and a battle re-enactment, the release said.
A children’s activity area, sponsored by Our Lady of the Lake of Livingston, will be available, and patrons will learn different aspects of WWII through various games and activities, the release said. Proceeds from the event are donated to The Jackson Veterans Home and The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Home. More information is available at www.reliveww2.com.
