On Sept. 11, Independence Elementary School students remembered and honored those who died or fought to save lives in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Bernadette Legoria’s fourth-grade class read “I Survived the Attacks of 9/11” in a pass-the-book activity. Jamie Greer’s class created “Never Forgotten” ribbons and June Willis’ second-grade students made a hand flag to hang in their hallway .

In an email to Tangipahoa Parish teachers, Superintendent Mark Kolwe stressed the importance of teaching children about their country, patriotism and freedom.
