The Hammond Ponchatoula Sunriser Rotary Club recently pledged to triple the value of its current offerings for Southeastern Louisiana University scholarships, a news release said.

The club’s initial scholarship, initiated in 2011 and completed in 2012, helped defray the costs of tuition for a selected student. The club decided to increase the endowed value of its scholarship due to rising tuition costs.

“Our goal is to have the scholarship provide about $1,000 each year to its recipient,” club President Greg Earles said.

“This is a great show of support for Southeastern and its students,” said Wendy Lauderdale, SLU vice president for advancement. “It is so important that we have a strong scholarship program to ensure that students who can attend and achieve have the opportunity to do so.”
