The Live Oak High School band, color guard, Eaglettes and cheerleaders hosted their 13th annual middle school night Sept. 12.
The Live Oak Middle School band and spirit groups were invited to join the Live Oak High School band and spirit groups for a varsity football game, a news release from LOMS said. This year’s performance included more than 100 middle school band, color guard, dance team and cheer members. Each group has been practicing for several weeks, and participated in a three-hour rehearsal.
Friday night began with a pregame meal at the high school, that allowed the students to greet one another in a more relaxed social setting, the release said. During the halftime show, the LOHS Eaglettes and the LOMS Pizazz performed to “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” by the Scorpions. The combined middle and high school bands featured both color guards, and the hit song “Let It Go” from the Disney animated movie “Frozen.”
This Disney selection was chosen to highlight the schools’ bands and color guards intent to compete at Festival Disney in Walt Disney World. In March 2015, the groups will spend four days at the Walt Disney World Resort participating in contests for concert band and indoor guard, the release said. The Live Oak High School Marching Band is applying to earn a spot in the afternoon parade through the Magic Kingdom, the release said.
The purpose of hosting a middle school night is to foster pride and school spirit within the Live Oak schools and community, the release said. While the halftime performance only lasted 10 minutes, LOHS’s hope is that the students remember the positive impact of working together for much longer, the release said.
