Denham Springs High School and title sponsor Sport-N-Center are selling tickets to the DSHS Athletic Hall of Fame induction banquet through Aug. 25 at the school office, 1000 N. Range Ave.
The annual event is slated for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Forrest Grove Plantation, 8743 Stephenson Drive, Denham Springs.
Tickets for the event, which includes a catered meal, will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis for $50 per person. Advance purchase is required. Those interested can make checks payable to the Denham Springs Athletic Association. Because another capacity crowd is anticipated, the public is encouraged to buy tickets early.
Several former great Yellow Jacket sports figures will be honored, including Ryan Byrd, baseball; Nancy Davis McConnell, basketball and track; coach Steve Long, baseball; Diane Small Oliveaux, basketball; Jim Kemp, football and track; Paige Satcher, basketball and tennis; Dr. David Hughes, school board member; and the late Rex Wilkinson, basketball.

The Livingston Parish Children’s Choirs are registering for the fall semester.
LPCC’s entry-level choirs include apprentice, for children entering kindergarten through third grade, and chorus, for children in third through 10th grades. LPCC’s instructors are professional music teachers with bachelor’s and/or master’s degrees in vocal music.

The next Livingston Economic Development Council general membership meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 27 at Forrest Grove Plantation, 8743 Stephenson Drive, Denham Springs.
The speaker will be Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance Jim Donelon. The Affordable Care Act, escalating flood insurance rates, insurance coverage before and after hurricanes and tropical storms will likely be part of his discussions, a news release from LEDC said. The meal will cost $18 per person.
Local business owners can receive free resources through the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The organization will help business owners with job training, recruitment, tax incentives and employee health and safety at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Livingston Branch Library, 13986 Florida Blvd.

Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 4-10 will offer boating safety classes from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 9 and Sept. 27 at Bass Pro Shop in Denham Springs. The cost is $25. Topics include maintaining boats, navigation rules, navigation lights, operating a boat safely, casting off and docking, anchoring, state and federal requirements, emergencies, water sports, filing a boat plan, fuel, new state boating laws and more, a news release from Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 4-10 said. Louisiana now has a mandatory boating education law. All persons born after Jan. 1, 1984, must complete a boating education course and carry proof of completion to operate a motorboat in excess of 10 horsepower.
