An organization dedicated to helping veterans receive their military benefits has found a home in Denham Springs.

During an April 14 meeting, the Denham Springs City Council accepted an agreement giving office space to The Disabled American Veterans in the government-owned building at 133 Hummell St. The building is also home to the Arts Council of Livingston Parish and formerly housed the Chamber of Commerce.

The Disabled American Veterans organization will assist former service members in applying for their Veterans’ Affairs benefits. Despite the group’s name, it will offer its help to all former service members, not just the disabled, and from every branch of the armed forces. The office will be run by members of the organization’s Capital City Chapter based in Baton Rouge.

The new site, which opened earlier this month, will be open from 8:30 a.m. and noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The organization also can be reached by phone at (225) 229-5465.
