Livingston Parish schools are encouraged to submit photographs and stories about what’s happening on campus for publication in each week’s Advocate Livingston-Tangipahoa community news section.

News about school projects and programs, visitors, volunteers and student and faculty achievements can be submitted for publication.

The deadline is 5 p.m. Friday for each Thursday publication.

Library closes for Labor Day

All branches of the Livingston Parish Library will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day. Regular hours will resume the following day.

Small business consulting

The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University will host a free day of small business consultation at the Main Branch of the Livingston Parish Library from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday .

Attendees will receive a private, one-hour consulting session in areas including business plans, advertising plans, inventory control, financial projections, cost analysis and more.

Art Bots created at library

Design Art Bots, create your own markers and learn the science behind color at the Watson Branch of the Livingston Parish Library at 2 p.m. Saturday and at the Denham Springs-Walker Branch at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10.

Zentangle lesson planned

Zentangle drawing, a method of pen stroke patterning within overlapping circles, is the focus of a lesson for ages 12 to 18 at the South Branch of the Livingston Parish Library at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10.

Video gaming for adults

Adults who enjoy playing video games are invited to the Main Branch of the Livingston Parish Library at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 to compete against their friends and other library patrons.

Video game night is for ages 17 and older.

Candidates announcement accepted

Candidates for parish and municipal offices in Livingston and Tangipahoa parishes can submit brief campaign announcements for publication.

All announcements must include age, political party and education of candidate. Photos should be a high-resolution, color JPEG file.

The announcements are subject to editing and will run as space is available.

The deadline to submit is Sept. 11.
