Go Ministries

Go Ministries will minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ with videos, skits, music and ministry at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. Sunday at Glory of God Worship Center, 1114 Rodeo Drive, Denham Springs. People of all ages are welcome, and the event is free.

Beauty pageant

The 2014 Seize the Beauty Pageant will be Saturday at Walker Freshman High School.

All proceeds benefit the Kathleen “Kat” Bailey Scholarship given at Walker High School each year. Bailey was a 2007 Walker High alumni who died at 19 after a seizure. Each year, a scholarship is funded by Seize the Beauty Pageant and is given to two graduating seniors at Walker High School who wish to pursue a medical career.

Gumbo cook-off

River Rats Bar and Grille will host a Gumbo and Potato Salad Cook-off and Sale Saturday.

Proceeds will benefit the Dreams Come True Foundation.

Gumbo contestants must turn in their gumbo at 11:30 a.m. for judging. Food will be sold to the public starting at 11:30 a.m. The entry fee is $50, and contestants must cook at least 3 gallons of any type of gumbo, and the gumbo must be cooked on-site, organizers said. Some preparations can be done before the event. Trophies and money will be awarded to the top three cooks.

The entry fee for potato salad contestants is $20. Cooks must use at least 1 dozen eggs and 10 pounds of potatoes, organizers said. The potato salad must be ready for judging at 11 a.m. The potato salad can be prepared at home, organizers said. The top three entries will receive a trophy.

Premier Fitness, 35055 La. 16, Suite 2F, Denham Springs, will hold a free women’s self-defense class at 10 a.m. Saturday for ages 13 and up.

Thanksgiving service

A community interdenominational Thanksgiving religious service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at Christ’s Community Church, 26574 Juban Road.

Scott Cheatman, pastor of the Way Church in Denham Springs, will deliver the sermon. People of all faiths are welcome, organizers said. The annual event, sponsored by the Denham Springs Kiwanis Club, will take an offering for the Family Resource Center.

Christmas open house

The Denham Springs Antique Village Christmas Open House will be Nov. 29. Children can get a free picture taken with Santa from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Old City Hall on Mattie Street, courtesy of Main Street volunteers and Pelican State Credit Union.

Also at Old City Hall, hot chocolate and cookies will be served by Pelican State Credit Union. The Denham Springs/Walker Library will present a Christmas puppet show at 2 p.m. Those attending can find one-of-a-kind gifts in the Denham Springs Antiques Village.

Christmas Crusade donations

Area residents are asked to donate unwrapped gifts for needy children through Sheriff Jason Ard’s Christmas Crusade. Donations will be accepted at Bass Pro Shop, Sam’s Club and all Wal-Mart locations in Denham Springs, Walker and Watson from:
