A working gristmill, wood carvers, quilters and other craftsmen will be on hand for the eighth annual Pioneer Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday on Mattie Street in front of Old City Hall in Denham Springs.

A visit from the Louisiana Gold Honeybee Association, a covered wagon display, cypress boat builders and a military exhibit also are planned for the daylong event.

A bluegrass band is set to perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and food will be sold.

Inside Old City Hall will be a museum exhibit of vintage clothing and quilts, and Tammy Mulhearn, of the Livingston Parish Library, will have a puppet show, “Epossum Ondas,” at 1:30 p.m. upstairs for the children.

On the steps of Old City Hall will be chair caning by Charles Crowder, and Jesse Eaves will have his knot-tying display.

Movie Donation Day

Do you have any old DVD movies around the house? There a chance to donate those unwanted DVDs to a good cause from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday during a collection drive in front of the Walker Wal-Mart.

CineCare will be collecting G, PG and PG-13 movies. CineCare is a nonprofit organization founded by Denham High students that provides movies to sick and/or disadvantaged residents.

The movies are delivered to Children’s Miracle Network, Child Advocacy Services, various women’s shelters and area nursing homes.

Dog show, training sessions

The Every Dog Club’s Dog Show is set for April 23 in Livingston.

To prepare for the show, the club is hosting training sessions.

Dog owners interested in learning tips before the show can attend the training session at 11 a.m. at AmVets Hall, at La. 42 and La. 43 in Springfield, on March 26, March 29, March 31 and April 2.

Additional training sessions are set for Tuesdays at the Continental Kennel Club facility, 28901 S. Frost Road, Livingston. The classes, which start at 6 p.m., last about an hour.

The dog show is set for April 23 also at the Continental Kennel Club facility.

Entry is $10 per class, and a costume contest also is planned.

The club offers meet-and-greet sessions at 9 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month at the club facility for prospective members.
