The Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University will host a free lunch seminar on foreign trade zones from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Southeast Louisiana Business Center, 1514 Martens Drive, Hammond.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. for “Realizing the Benefits of a Foreign Trade Zone for Your Organization,” which is being cosponsored by Tangipahoa Economic Development.

“For the second consecutive year, data on foreign-trade zone activity in the United States has shown FTZ imports and exports surging to new levels,” said Sandy Summers, assistant director of the Southeastern SBDC. “U.S.-based companies are seeking and receiving FTZ benefits under new, streamlined application procedures. By taking advantage of the new procedures, companies of all sizes have gained access to important benefits such as deferral, reduction and elimination of duties; cash flow savings; direct delivery; and reduced merchandise processing fees.”

Summers said the seminar will demonstrate how combining the benefits of a foreign trade zone and the transportation advantages can benefit an organization.

The speaker will be Bo Ethridge, CPE, Port of New Orleans real estate and business development manager and director of the foreign trade zone.

Preregistration is suggested. To register, call (985) 549-3831 or email lsbdc.slu@lsbdc.org.
