Live Oak Middle School color guard squad started the month with a gold medal performance at the Louisiana-Mississippi Color Guard and Percussion Circuit Championship on April 2 at the Thibodaux Civic Center.

The girls, coached by Stephanie Watts, Brittany Hebert and Jennifer Hendrix, competed against other middle school and junior high teams from Louisiana and Mississippi.

The sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade color guard members competed in the cadet class.

The squad’s winterguard routine was titled “In Memory of ...” and dedicated to the men and women “who gave their lives in service to our country,” a news release said.

“It depicts a military wife who is grieving for her lost love, but stays strong for her child,” the release said.

The routine is performed to an instrumental version of a combination of “Fight Song” and “Amazing Grace.” The routine combines elements of dance while using flags, rifles and sabers.

The group is sponsored by Michelle Jenkins, Haley Franklin and Misty Reynerson, and assistant coaches are Laura Staub and Jessica Bowen.

The squad included Alaina Griffin, captain; Breli McCollister, captain; Brooke Daniel; Alexa Payne; Kylie Hidalgo; McKenzie Kimbrell; Abigail Whitam; Alesha Baker; Rebekah Carr; Chloe Franklin; Liberty Rabalais; Grace Reynerson; Anna Stafford; Emerie Bohlmann; Reagan Carroll; Rebecca Gros; and Leisa Munson.
