The Denham Springs High School Class of 1965 celebrated its 50th anniversary class reunion on April 25 at North Park Recreational Center.
Seventy-five classmates attended the celebration; 43 were part of the class from first through 12th grade and are known as charter members. The Class of 1965 had 156 members, with 30 of those deceased.
Classmates were greeted with a name tag and a gift bag containing a two-pack DVD collection of “Days of Yesteryear” with school pictures dating from 1953-65 and “Memories of Reunions & Birthdays, and Class Dedications” dating 1970-2013, which included a memorial tribute to deceased classmates and a “Golden Oldies” CD of music from the 1960s.
Roger White opened the reunion with a prayer. The program was presented by reunion coordinator Bobbye Morris Corbitt.
Steve Jones took a few moments to honor veterans, law enforcement officers and firefighters.
A memorial table paid tribute to deceased classmates, along with a dedication video created and narrated by White, reading each name and date of passing and ending with a moment of silence .
After the program, classmate Royce Bassett offered the blessing of the meal. Attendees then enjoyed entertainment and memories while watching a video slideshow created by White.
Reunion committee members Corbitt, Gwen Miller Willis, Lanell Whitehead Rasberry, Dorothy Varnado Owens, Karen Ott Thornton, Shyrl Cutrer Westmoreland, Royce Bassett, Carl Barnum, Steve Jones, Leo Ware, White and Rodney Underwood were recognized for organizing the event.
