Catherine Donnow has been named Hammond Westside Montessori Teacher of the Year for 2015.
Donnow’s classroom is made up of first-, second- and third-graders. The Montessori philosophy is to teach three ages together so the older students become mentors and the younger students aspire to advance quickly with the help of their mentors, a news release from the school said.
Donnow finds new and innovative ways to teach Common Core State Standards at a rigorous level and shares her findings with the faculty, school officials said. Her students always are engaged in meaningful work that is designed to challenge them while they are enjoying learning, school officials said.
