Conference helps create scholarship

The Women Mean Business Conference, hosted annually by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University and Tangipahoa Professional Women (TPW), has helped raise scholarship funds to create the TPW Scholarship.

Established in 2011, the scholarship program is also funded through local donations.

Summers said application packets must include a complete scholarship application filled out and signed by the student. If the applicant is 18 or younger, an additional signature by a parent or guardian is required. Applicants must also submit a personal essay of 150 words or less, two separate recommendation forms from non-family community members, such as colleagues, counselors, teachers, pastors or employers, and a copy of a college acceptance letter or proof of registration.

Republican women to meet in Walker

The Livingston Parish Republican Women will hold its monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Wholly Ground, 27988 Walker S. Road. Candidates for the 1st Circuit Court of Appeal and elected officials from the area will be at the event to talk about their legislative agenda for the 2013 session, organizers said. Model train show set in Ponchatoula

‘Door of Hope’ slates showcase

A Door of Hope will host the Hope Chef’s Showcase and Silent Auction Saturday at Greystone Country Club, 9214 Greystone Drive, Denham Springs.

Food samples from area restaurants will be available and a silent auction will be held. Guests will serve as judges as chefs compete for best dish. Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks will speak, organizers said.
