Glenn “Butch” Bartels, a senior at St. Thomas Aquinas Regional Catholic High School in Hammond, recently was chosen as one of 17 WWL-TV A+ Athletes from around the WWL viewing area.
Bartels was honored at a luncheon with the other A+ Student Athletes and taped a segment with WWL Sports Director Doug Mouton that will air in February.
WWL-TV, of New Orleans, recognizes outstanding high school student athletes based on scholastic achievement, athletic ability and overall community and school involvement, a news release said.
Bartels is a 4.0 honor student who notched a 35 composite score on the ACT and recently was named a National Merit Commended Student. He is a member of the soccer, swimming and tennis teams and is a former cross-country runner. Bartels serves as soccer team captain and president of the Robotics and Beta clubs.
Bartels plans to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study astronautical engineering.
His parents are Glenn Bartels and Jennifer Moore, of Hammond.
