Cheneyenne Saucier

Maurepas eighth-grader Cheneyenne Saucier paraded with the Baton Rouge Division of the Navy Sea Cadets in the local Orion Mardi Gras Parade.

Saucier has been a member of the Sea Cadets for more than a year. The Naval Sea Cadet Corps and the Naval League Cadet Corps are for youth, ages 11-17, who have a desire to learn about the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines, a news release said.

Sea Cadets are authorized by the secretary of the U.S. Navy to wear naval uniforms appropriately marked with the Sea Cadet Corps insignia.

The objectives of the Sea Cadet program are to introduce youth to naval life, to develop in them a sense of pride, patriotism, courage and self-reliance. They foster their leadership abilities and broaden their horizons through hands-on training, and guide them into becoming mature adults.
