Local students were among more than 125 honored during the Summer Recognition Ceremony on Oct. 16 in Treen Auditorium at Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts in Natchitoches.

Katherine Wheeler, a senior from Denham Springs, was recognized for summer research. Wheeler conducted research at LSU with the REHSS Research Program.

Connor Elsea, a senior from Denham Springs, was recognized for participating in a summer internship. Elsea served as a software engineering intern at technology company Teknarus in Baton Rouge.

Maram Azmi, a senior from Denham Springs, was recognized for leadership and community service. Azmi volunteered with the Red Cross in Meknes, Morocco.

Students recognized for scoring well on an advanced placement exam include Denham Springs residents Bryce Cason, a senior; Marcos Cecchini, a junior; Elsea; and Karleigh Gwyn, a junior.

Students recognized for participating in the Artist-in-Training program include Denham Springs residents Hayden Fisher, a junior; Gwyn; and Hannah Haggenmacher, a senior.

National Honor Society members include Azmi; Sierra Bailey, a junior from Hammond; Cason; Marcos Cecchini, a junior from Denham Springs; Gwyn; Haggenmacher; Emma Jochim, a senior from Denham Springs; Connor Juban, a senior from Denham Springs; Daven Lavigne, a senior from Port Vincent; Nicholas Lipscomb, a senior from Walker; and Carrie Thomas, a junior from Denham Springs.
