Vic Rushing, a senior at Live Oak High School in Watson, received a scholarship from The Good South, a Southern lifestyle clothing company based in Greenville, South Carolina.
Rushing, the son of Dana and Jodi Rushing, is an advanced placement scholar who served as Student Council and senior class president at Live Oak. He is an accomplished pianist, serves as chaplain of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, is co-founder and president of Students Helping At Risk in Education and is the Louisiana Student of the Year.
Rushing plans to attend Tulane University in the fall to major in political science and business.
Jason Welch and Steven Nelson, former college admissions counselors, opened The Good South at the end of 2013 as an online retailer of bow ties, T-shirts and hats. Seeing the need for college scholarships, Welch and Nelson created a business model that donates a portion of their yearly proceeds to a scholarship fund.
The Good South opened its scholarship application process to current and college bound students, having well over 1,000 applicants.
