LSU Agricultural Center Area Nutrition Agent Layne Langley conducted a nine-week nutrition series with the summer camp at Parks and Recreation of Denham Springs.

Langley used the “Let’s Eat for the Health of It” curriculum developed by the LSU AgCenter to teach children in seven camp groups about nutrition and health. With each program, Langley conducted hands-on activities and an interactive food demonstration, she said in a news release.

Langley guided the children in making MyPlate salads, egg salad in a bag, whole-grain trail mix, Bunny Dip with fresh vegetables, smoothies, fruit salad and Asian coleslaw.

Campers competed in the MyPlate Relay during Health and Safety Week, learned about the benefits of exercising during Fitness Fun Week, took part in a Fiber Relay in which teams “fed” healthy foods and junk foods into tubes to see which food came out of the tube easier during Games Galore Week. They rode the smoothie bike during Holiday Fun Week and Frozen Fever Week, and learned about hand washing and food safety.
