The Louisiana Small Business Development Center and the Livingston Economic Development Council will host “When Disaster Strikes: Emergency Preparedness for Businesses” from 9 a.m. to noon June 26 at the Livingston Literacy and Technology Center, 9261 Florida Blvd., Walker.

The workshop will help business owners understand local response updates, gauge business readiness, create a business continuity plan, select the right insurance, keep data secure and engage in crisis communications.

Livingston soccer tryouts to be held

The Livingston Parish Soccer Association will host competitive tryouts this month at the Livingston Parish Soccer Association Soccer Complex at Sidney Hutchinson Park, La. 1029, Walker.

Food trucks support women’s shelter

A food truck event to benefit Women Outreaching Women will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Iberia Bank, 822 South Range, Denham Springs. Food trucks will be set up to serve food from Papi’s, Cajun on the Go and Taco de Paco. WOW operates the only shelter in Livingston Parish for battered women and their children.

Camp teaches kids about health, safety

Jackets Against Destructive Decisions will host a free safety and prevention summer camp for children in kindergarten through fifth grade from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 9 to June 13 at Gray’s Creeks Elementary, 11400 La. 1033, Denham Springs. The program is taught by trained high school students who are alcohol-, tobacco- and drug-free. The program teaches children about the brain’s growth and development, risks of alcohol exposure, personal safety and communication skills, health and vehicle safety, media awareness and more. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The camp is free. Those interested should register online at www.lpsadd.org.

Denham Springs High to hold painting camps

The Denham Springs High School Art Department is offering many summer painting camps for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Students will create a painting and camp shirt and work on a group project with a focus on a famous artist and his or her painting technique. The following artists will be studied during the following dates: Andy Warhol, June 9 and 10; Jasper Johns, June 11 and 12; Wassily Kandinsky, June 16 and 17; Paul Klee, June 18 and 19; Bridget Riley, June 23 and 24; and Janet Fish, June 25 and 16.

The camps will be from 8 a.m. to noon.
