Hammond residents are asked to donate items for “Operation Christmas Child — Samaritan’s Purse,” to the Hammond Recreation Center, 601 W. Coleman Ave.

The drive needs dolls, toy trucks, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yo’s, jump ropes, balls, light-up toys and ones that make noise, batteries and more. They also need school supplies, including pens, pencils, sharpeners, crayons or markers, stamps, ink pad sets, writing pads, paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books and more.

Hygiene products, such as toothbrushes, soap, combs, washcloths, are also needed. Other items in demand are T-shirts, socks, caps, sunglasses, hair clips, jewelry, watches and flashlights with batteries. Please do not donate used or damaged items, war-related items, chocolate or food, out of date candy, liquids or lotions, medications or vitamins, breakable items and aerosol cans, a news release from the Hammond Recreation Department said.
