Denham Springs officer James E. Foster Jr. was one of three officers honored during the 16th annual Law Enforcement Medal of Honor Ceremony in Baton Rouge.
Foster, who was a motorcycle officer with the Denham Springs Police Department, died Dec. 30 in a crash while heading to a scene of an accident on Interstate 12.
At the Sept. 3 ceremony, Foster was remembered as a hero who sacrificed his life responding to an emergency.
Denham Springs police Chief Scott Jones talked about Foster’s commitment to his job, family and community.
The Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement has honored officers who died in the line of duty since 1988.
Also honored were Deputy Carlos Papillion Jr., St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office; and Deputy Allen Morris Bares Jr., Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office.
