The Jacket Pride band program is offering “Denham Minis,” a new class designed to introduce and enhance the skills needed to become a member of the DSHS color guard.
Students in first through eighth grades are invited to attend, a news release said.
Those enrolled will learn about the basics of color guard, and will enjoy music, dance and hands-on flag use that will provide them a fun activity, while building friendships and becoming part of the Jacket Pride family.
Classes will begin this fall, and will be held weekly on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings, based on enrollment, at a price of $45 per month with a final performance fee of $100, that will cover a demonstration of what they have learned at the conclusion of the session.
The color guard is under the direction of Johnette Folse, with Denise Duncan providing leadership in initiating the Denham Minis group.
Registration will be held at the Denham Springs High School Band Room, located on Yellow Jacket Boulevard, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 8, when details about the program will be provided.
Classes are scheduled to begin on Sept. 15.
