Affordable Care Act

Navigators For A Healthy Louisiana will present a forum about the Affordable Care Act from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Denham Springs-Walker Library, 8101 U.S. 190, Denham Springs. Those attending can get answers to their questions about the Affordable Care Act and purchasing insurance through the federal health insurance marketplace, a news release from the library said. Soccer registration

The Livingston Parish Soccer Association Spring Registration event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Jan. 31 at Academy Sports and Outdoors at Juban Crossing in Denham Springs. Organizing basics

Tax preparation

Two branches of the Livingston Parish Library will host free tax preparation for participants with an income of $50,000 or less for 2014 on Jan. 29. The Denham Springs-Walker Branch hosts sessions from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Livingston Branch sessions are from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Those interested should bring their tax documents, such as W-2s, 1099s, and information for deductions and credits along with a copy of last year’s tax return and a Social Security card for a spouse and dependents. They may also bring proof of a bank account for direct deposit.

Volunteers will prepare most simple returns, but more complicated returns will not be processed. Co-sponsored by Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and the Internal Revenue Service, this program is by appointment only. Call the branch hosting the preferred event to make an appointment. Breast cancer screening

Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Center will provide breast cancer screenings Jan. 30 at Carter’s Supermarket, 29186 La. 43, Albany. Screenings are free for participants who have not been screened within the last 12 months, a news release from Our Lady of the Lake said. Insurance will be billed for mammograms. Car seat checks

Patrons are invited to come out to the Denham Springs-Walker Library’s parenting series for information about topics including breast-feeding, nutrition, car seat fitting and child safety. During the first workshop, patrons can explore car seat safety at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 31 at 8101 U.S. 190, Denham Springs.
