In an effort to combat drunken driving, the Denham Springs Police Department is putting additional officers on the road through Sept. 7.

The effort is part of the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission’s Drive Sober Get Pulled Over DWI Wave.

E-book launch party

The Livingston Parish Library system is celebrating the launch of its new e-book service with parties and Nook GlowLights giveaways.

Staff will demonstrate the service and help you get started downloading free e-books from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at all library branches. Bring in your device for one-on-one help.

All about bow hunting

Adults interested in learning about bow hunting can come to the Denham Springs-Walker Branch Library from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for a free program.

Archery Shooters Association state champion and Greater Baton Rouge Senior Olympics gold medalist Robert Desoto will go over types of arrows, equipment, proper bow setup, tips and tricks.

The Denham Springs-Walker Branch is at 8101 U.S. 190 in Denham Springs.

New beading group

The Arts Council of Livingston Parish has a new jewelry beading group, the Bead-y-ful Designers.

Participants may bring a jewelry project they are working on or that they may need help with. Some supplies may be available, or you can bring your own.

The group will meet on the first Tuesday of each month, beginning Sept. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the Arts Council of Livingston Parish, 133 Hummel St., Denham Springs.

VFW Travelers cruise

Join the VFW Travelers on a 10-day, nine-night cruise on the Royal Caribbean cruise line from June 23-July 2.

Travelers will fly from Baton Rouge to Baltimore, where they will board the cruise ship. The ship will visit Boston; Portland and Bar Harbor, Maine; St. John, New Brunswick; and Halifax, Nova Scotia. A passport is required.
