Fourteen Livingston Parish 4-H’ers competed May 17 in the 2016 Southeast Regional 4-H Culinary Arts Contest in Ponchatoula.
The 4-H members prepared dishes for judges in categories including seafood, beef, poultry, egg, sugar and bento, and took part in educational activities while judging was taking place.
Participants were Ian Coates, of Northside Elementary; Cali Green, Macey Higginbotham, Anna Hutchinson, Zachary Trawick, Josie Purvis and Autumn Herring, all of Holden School; Madelyn Morgan, of Doyle Elementary; Emilee Lambert and Hannah Robertson, both of Lewis Vincent Elementary; Lily Pritchard, of Southside Elementary; Allison DePriest, of Albany Middle; Kylie Lutz, of Frost Elementary; and Lauren Ellzey, of Doyle High.
Winners included Coates, first in seafood, oyster; Morgan, second in seafood, shrimp; Hutchinson, first in beef, quick and easy main dish; DePriest, second in poultry, processed poultry products, and first in bento; Pritchard, second in poultry, other poultry products; Ellzey, second in sugar, cake; and Purvis, first in sugar, candy.
First-place division winners attended a special field trip to Covey Rise Farm in Husser, which provides produce for many New Orleans-area restaurants, where they also had lunch.
