The Livingston Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory will help youths get inspired with Science Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 20 at LIGO Science Education Center in Livingston.
The theme for the free event will be “Fall Into Science,” and attendees can learn about electromagnetism with hands-on activities. Participants also will explore gravity by conducting a balloon drop or stretching a spring in a gravity well, LIGO officials said in a news release. They also will discover Einstein’s theory of relativity by making Einstein’s toy and more.

The Livingston Parish Republican Women will hold a benefit clay shoot Friday.
Participants can spend the afternoon at Riverside Sporting Clays with 15 stations, 100 clays on a 11/4-mile course. Participants are asked to bring their own shotgun with 100 or more shells. Safety or shooting glasses are required, and no alcohol will be allowed until after the shoot, organizers said.
Participants can bring their ATV or golf cart if they don’t want to walk. The cost is $600 for a four-person team and $250 for shooting station sponsors. First United Methodist Church of Denham Springs, 316 Centerville, is partnering with the American Red Cross to provide disaster relief training from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The event aims to recruit and train members from corporate and community organizations to serve as Red Cross volunteers in times of disaster or crisis.
