Members of the Livingston Volunteers for Family and Community Club Lady Bugs met at Bethel Baptist Church in Livingston on May 21 to discuss business, including upcoming community service projects and a tour of the Hammond Research Station.

LSU Agricultural Center area nutrition agent Layne Langley conducted a “Make Half Your Plate Fruits & Vegetables” program for the Lady Bugs. Members received tips on how to add more fruits and vegetables to their day and participated in a taste test, sampling the store and national brands of tomato juice and fruit cocktail to see if they could determine which was the store brand and which was the national brand. Members also took part in a fruit and vegetable game that led to discussion among members.

Langley guided members in a food demonstration and taught them to prepare Rise and Shine Cobbler, a recipe with pears, peaches and prunes.
