The Golden Wildcats of Walker High School recently completed the Universal Dance Association Dance Camp at Mississippi State University.
The team won second place in the home routine competition and received a superior ribbon for its performance.
The Golden Wildcats received the 110 Percent Award, selected by UDA staff, for exemplifying full effort and dedication to success. The team also received numerous drill down ribbons, a super spirit stick and a team spirit stick.
Abigail Edwards, a junior, received first runner-up in the Drill Down Queen competition, which had approximately 450 participants.
Edwards, junior Sage Gerald and freshmen Madison Garcia and Rachel May were chosen as All-American Dancers. They received medals and the opportunity to dance in the Christmas parade at Disney World. Edwards and Gerald also received the chance to perform in the New Year’s Day Parade in London.
“These young ladies tried out and started a dance team only 10 weeks ago,” team sponsor Ashley Brown said. “They have bonded quickly and proven themselves as a team at camp, so I’d say we are off to a great start.”
“We are anxiously awaiting for what the future holds for this talented group,” coach Rachel Nance said.
The 2015-16 Golden Wildcats are freshmen Emily Bellue, Garcia, Peyton Geautreaux, May and Abigail Vucinovich; sophomores Lindsey Phan and Megan Trahan; and juniors Chloe Carter, An’Tajha DeGray, co-captain Edwards, captain Kenley Forbes, Gerald, Kelcie Harris, co-captain Lexi Schroeder and Makayla Williams.
The Golden Wildcats will resume practice in July to prepare for football season and will host a Kids Dance Camp on July 27-29 at Walker High School.
A registration form is available at the school’s front office.
