Protecting You/Protecting Me summer camp, sponsored by the Livingston Parish Students Against Destructive Decisions, will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 9 to June 13 at Gray’s Creek Elementary, 11400 La. 1033, Denham Springs.
The free safety and prevention camp is for children in kindergarten through fifth grades. Youths will be taught by trained high school students who are alcohol-, tobacco- and drug-free, organizers said.
The program teaches children about brain development and growth, the risks of alcohol exposure to the developing brain, vehicle safety, health, personal safety, communication skills, media awareness and the importance of protecting themselves by making good decisions. Campers learn this information through age-specific group activities, role discussions, exploring real life topics and issues and parent involvement, organizers said.
