The Arts Council of Livingston Parish will be Celebrating the Earth during April with an art exhibit by several local artists.

The exhibit, held at the group’s gallery at 133 Hummell St., Denham Springs, will include art in various mediums. There will be an opportunity to meet the artists at a reception on April 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The group also will hold classes for children and adults on the “3 Rs: Recycle, Reuse and Repurpose.” Participants will use found objects to create art. Details can be found at www.artslivingston.org or by calling (225) 664-1168 for more information.

Online genealogy

Learn how to use library resources to research genealogy during the Livingston Parish Library’s Genealogy 102: Research on the Internet program.

The program will introduce patrons to some vital genealogy sites, including free resources offered by the Livingston Parish Library such as Ancestry Library Edition.

Learn about useful Web sites and get tips about how to search for ancestors online from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Main Branch computer lab.

VITA tax prep

Co-sponsored by Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and the Internal Revenue Service, this event offers free tax preparation for participants with a low to moderate income for 2015. Bring tax documents such as W-2s, 1099s, and information for deductions and credits, along with a copy of last year’s tax return and a Social Security card for yourself, spouse and dependents. You may also bring proof of a bank account for direct deposit. Volunteers will prepare most simple returns, but more complicated returns will not be processed.

Dance for fun

Learn simple line dancing steps, so you can join in at parties and weddings. This Livingston Parish Library class will teach four beginner dances.

Classes will be held at the Main Library branch at 6 p.m. on Thursday; at the Denham Springs-Walker branch at 6 p.m. Tuesday; and at the Albany-Springfield branch at 6 p.m. March 31.
