More than 90 children practiced their peddling skills on Saturday during Pelican State Credit Union’s 11th annual Free Kids Bike Race at Abundant Life Church in Denham Springs.

The races were divided into three age groups: 5 and under, 6-9 and 10-12. All racers received medals of completion after being cheered on by family members, friends and Petey the Pelican.

In addition to the bike races, children participated in activities including music, games, fire truck tours, a motorcycle show, a bounce house, a photo booth and face painting. Door prizes for parents were also available, a news release from Pelican State Credit Union said.

Drew Sarhan, 8, recently learned to ride a bike and was excited to show off his skills.

“I had a blast and made lots of new friends,” Drew said.

After each race, a lucky winner was drawn to win a new bicycle from Capitol Cyclery. Mikenzee Washington, Kohl Martin and Emma Elsea each held a winning raffle ticket in their age group.
