Water balloons flew Friday as students at North Live Oak Elementary celebrated their efforts to raise money for a program that provides food for students to take home each Friday.

School counselor Rhonda Whitam said school officials challenged students to raise $1,000 during a weeklong campaign in February. The grade level raising the most money was promised a chance to toss water balloons at faculty and staff.

The students shattered the goal, raising $3,413.13.

On Friday, the winning fourth-grade students got their reward. Many teachers donned rain gear as the students tossed water balloons in their direction.

The Mighty Moms' Full Tummy Project provides food bags containing breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and juice for the weekend to students who have been identified as needing assistance to prevent hunger.
