A Ponchatoula woman was arrested after she intentionally swerved her vehicle into another lane to strike a pedestrian checking her mail Monday evening in Albany, according to the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses told deputies the pedestrian was on Pea Ridge Road around 6 p.m., trying to cross the street to check her mail, Sheriff Jason Ard said in a news release. At the same time, Kimberly Ann Kling, 45, was traveling southbound on Pea Ridge Road.
Witnesses said Kling “intentionally swerved” into the northbound lane, striking the pedestrian, Ard said. Kling then fled the scene. She was later found and taken into custody.
The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Ard said a motive has not been determined.
Kling, 15122 Wadesboro Road, Ponchatoula, was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on counts of attempted second-degree murder, hit and run, and DWI.
