Area students were among a group of 12 from Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts to provide community service during Special Projects Week in January.

Senior Hannah Miller and sophomore Ryann Hamilton, both of Baton Rouge, and Jordan Byrd, a junior from Denham Springs, participated in several projects throughout the week.

Students served meals at Manna House, helped pack boxes at the Alexandria food bank and helped elderly families in the Natchitoches area with home projects. Students especially enjoyed walking dogs at Happy Tails, the no-kill shelter of the Natchitoches Humane Society. Happy Tails is located on the grounds of the Natchitoches Detention Center.
