The streets of downtown Baton Rouge will run red during the sixth annual Oaks Kiwanis Club 1¼-mile Santa Fun Run on Dec. 9. All proceeds benefit the Oaks Kiwanis Club’s community service projects.

The run starts on the corner of River Road and Government Street, with streets closing at 2 p.m. Hundreds of Santas will line up at 4:45 p.m. and the race begins at 5 p.m., followed by the 67th annual Cortana Kiwanis Christmas Parade at 5:30 p.m.

Registered participants will receive Santa suits of a red jacket, black belt, red pants and Santa hat to wear during the run. Adults’ Santa suits also include a beard. Finisher medals will be awarded at the run’s end.

Runners are encouraged to donate books and toys to St. Vincent de Paul.

A VIP runners viewing section with refreshments and popcorn is reserved for runners to watch the parade after the run’s conclusion. VIP viewing passes are $5 each and available online during the registration process.

Register for the Santa Fun Run at by searching for “Santa Fun Run” or on-site the day of the run. Cost is $20 for adults and $15 for children ages 13 and younger. Packet pick-up is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 8 at Varsity Sports, 2055 Perkins Road.
