Sacred Heart in BR names assistant principal _lowres

Cecilia Methvin

Sacred Heart of Jesus School Principal Joan Hutson has named veteran junior high science teacher Cecilia Methvin as the new assistant principal. Methvin joined the Sacred Heart faculty in 1998 after teaching two years at Catholic High School Pointe Coupee.

She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University and serves as one of the school’s coordinators for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Accreditation self-study.

“Mrs. Methvin brings to her new position a dedication to our rich school traditions, an understanding of the academic and behavioral expectations in the classroom, and most importantly, a commitment to the responsibility to pass on the light of faith,” Hutson said.

Methvin and her husband, Jeff, are the parents of two Sacred Heart of Jesus alumni. Their son Sean is a rising senior at Catholic High School and daughter Aisie graduated from Sacred Heart in May and will begin her studies at St. Joseph’s Academy in the fall.

“One of the greatest blessings in my life was joining the Sacred Heart family 17 years ago,” Methvin said. “The faculty and staff who shaped me as an educator also helped Jeff and me raise our two children; to experience both of those things in the same school is rare and beautiful. Sacred Heart of Jesus School has been a beacon in Mid-City Baton Rouge for 85 years, and I am excited for the opportunity to help Mrs. Hutson lead it into the next 85.”
