Episcopal School of Baton Rouge junior Wilson Russ is serving as a U.S. Senate page in Washington, D.C., during his spring semester.
He joins 29 students from across the country this year to participate in the program, which began in 1829. The pages’ first week included the opportunity to attend the State of the Union address.
Pages must be high school juniors, at least 16 years old and undergo an application process through their senator’s office. Students chosen as pages perform duties including serving as messengers, preparing the Senate chamber for daily session and assisting lawmakers during meetings. Their time in the program includes continuing education and provided housing.
