The Louisiana Association of Teachers of Mathematics named Runnels School teacher Mark Landry the 2015 Outstanding High School Math Teacher of the Year on Nov. 10 at the River Center.

The award was presented at the Joint LATM/Louisiana Science Teachers Association Conference and included a $200 prize, a commemorative plaque and complimentary one-year memberships to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and LATM.

Candidates were evaluated on educational background, teaching experience, participation in professional development, letters of recommendation and a reflective essay on teaching philosophy and practices.

Landry, a 22-year faculty member at Runnels, teaches advanced placement calculus and advanced math.

Five Runnels math teachers were nominated for LATM awards this year, including Runnels Math and Science Department head Karen Matthews, who was a finalist for the Outstanding Math Educator Award.
