Several local nonprofit organizations will host community events throughout April to raise awareness on sexual violence and to support survivors, a news release from STAR said.
Baton Rouge’s Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response group, known as STAR, will be spearheading many of these community events.
STAR kicked off Sexual Assault Awareness Month with a tour of its facilities on April 1, showcasing its newly expanded advocacy and legal space.
Other events hosted by STAR include educational workshops and seminars, film screenings, fundraisers and supply drives.
“STAR works year-round to support survivors, raise awareness about sexual trauma and prevent sexual violence,” STAR Executive Director Racheal Hebert said.
“Through our collaborative efforts, we hope to move one step closer to a community free from oppression and sexual violence,” Hebert said.
