Glasgow Middle School’s Talented Art students have made their talents a permanent fixture of Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center’s art wall.
The students’ union of science and art has produced extremely intricate, detailed models of many of Louisiana’s rarest and most distinct bugs. The art is meant to raise awareness and share knowledge of the anatomy and characteristics of each bug and to show that simple materials can be used to make complex artwork, a news release said.
Attention to detail was key to creating the bugs, with specific anatomical details such as wings, legs and antennae created from mesh, wires and paper tape, then covered with papier mâché. Using tools like wire cutters and pliers, students then shaped the parts into the desired forms.
