Big Pigs for education
Baton Rouge Community College’s Business Department is the beneficiary of a March Madness fundraiser at City Pork.
For every Big Pig sandwich sold on Thursdays in March, $2 will be donated to the college’s Business Department. The fundraiser is available for lunch and dinner at City Pork Brasserie & Bar, 7327 Jefferson Highway, and City Pork Deli & Charcuterie, 2363 Hollydale Ave.
Rockin’ at the Swamp
Get hands-on experience with the world of rocks, minerals, gemstones and fossils at Rockin’ in the Swamp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center.
Activities include a Rockhound Market, rock climbing wall, Treasure Trail, hunting for iron pyrite in the gold mine, crafts, a fossil quarry and more.
Cost is $5 for adults, $2 for pass members, $4 for ages 2-17 and free for ages 2 and younger.
The Main Library invites teens to assemble and play with Makey Makey during a STEAM Day from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Teen Room.
Adults in their 20s can make simple, effective and natural nail and skin care products in Carver Branch Library’s meeting room 1 at 5 p.m. Monday.
Watch “Hidden Figures,” a movie based on this year’s One Book One Community selection, at Eden Park Branch Library at 5 p.m. Monday.
The young at heart are invited to BREC’s Adult Leisure Bunny Hop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Milton J. Womack Park. This Easter egg hunt is for adults ages 50 and older.

Civil service jobs
Learn about civil service jobs with the state or city-parish government during a free informational seminar at the Main Library from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday.
A panel including representatives from the Louisiana State Department of Civil Service and city of Baton Rouge/Parish of East Baton Rouge Parish Recruitment Division will discuss available career paths, available openings and how to apply.

Kidz in the Kitchen
BREC offers Kidz in the Kitchen at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at Expressway Park. Children ages 6-12 learn to prepare simple, healthy snacks in the kitchen while learning about proper nutrition and diet.
Parade throw bags
Children can prepare for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade by decorating drawstring bags to hold their parade throws. The craft is available from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. March 15 in Carver Branch Library’s meeting room 2.
Inventions and more
A presentation for adults, titled “African American Scientists, Inventors and Inventions” and presented by the Odell S. Williams Now and Then Museum, begins at 4:30 p.m. March 15 at Eden Park Branch Library.
Baton Rouge Zoo is hosting Spring Green from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 17, with zoo grounds closing at 5 p.m. The event includes education on how to help wild animals and wild places at special ampitheater programs, games and prizes for children and a “find the green” scavenger hunt.
