The 66th annual Cortana Kiwanis Downtown Christmas Parade rolls through downtown at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. More than 70,000 people watch the traditional parade live while thousands more watch it on television. Entries include a mix of marching bands, celebrities, dance troupes, nonprofit organizations and local businesses.

Festivities with BREC
Get into the spirit of the season this weekend with free holiday events sponsored by BREC.
FRIDAY: A park lighting ceremony, candlelight caroling and other family activities for all ages are available at the eighth annual Caroling in the Park at City-Brooks Community Park from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There will be hot chocolate, games and more and after the ceremony, a visit from Santa.
SATURDAY: The Toys for Tots Ollie Challenge & Highest BMX Hop at Perkins Road Community Park’s Extreme Sports Park is slated for noon to 4 p.m. People can watch or compete in the extreme skills event and donate a new toy for a child in need through Toys for Tots.
SUNDAY: Enjoy the annual Creole Christmas and Holiday Fair at Magnolia Mound Plantation from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. As well as seasonal decorations in the historic house, participants will enjoy local schoolchildren performing traditional songs in French and Spanish, period demonstrations, folk crafts and an annual bonfire welcoming Papa Noel.
A holiday game at 4 p.m. Monday at Eden Park Branch Library will have teens exercising their brains. Mischievous elves played a trick on "Buddy the Elf" and locked Santa’s sleigh keys in a box. Help Buddy save Christmas by getting the keys out of the box.
At Carver Branch Library, children ages 4 to 6 can hear a Gingerbread Man story and make a holiday tree ornament at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Virginia College’s second annual Holiday Fest with Santa is slated for 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the college’s campus at 9501 Cortana Place.
The community is invited to participate in free family-friendly activities including photos with Santa, writing thank-you notes for military troops, refreshments, popcorn, a tacky sweater contest with prices, crafts, giveaways and more. Those ages 18 and older can enter to win prizes such as Amazon gift cards, a news release said.
The Baton Rouge Corvette Club meets at 7 p.m. the second Wednesday of every month at the St. George Fire Department station at 14100 Airline Hwy. A coffee social begins at 6:30 p.m. Visit brcorvetteclub.com for details.
The Louisiana Art & Science Museum’s Discovery Dome will be at the Main Library on Dec. 14. The dome features full-dome animation, laser imagery and special effects, all set to a variety of festive classic songs and a multimedia finale by the Trans Siberian Orchestra.
Children of all ages are welcome. Shows are available at 2:30 p.m., 3:15 p.m., 4 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. with a running time of 30 minutes each. Call (225) 231-3760 for information or to register.
