Kids can create own paper shoes

A make-and-take craft is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Main Library’s Children’s Picture Book Area.

Children ages 3 to 11 will make personalized white Converse-style paper shoes based on the book “Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes.”

Kids younger than 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Groups cannot be accommodated.

Mad scientist lab

Teenage mad scientists can enjoy an afternoon of activities in the Main Library’s Teen Room from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Create a color organ controlled by music on your phone, make a piano from bananas, play vegetable Guitar Hero and work with snap circuit kits, Makey Makeys and more.

Princess story times

A princess will stop by for a royal story time, songs and a meet-and-greet from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at Eden Park Branch Library and 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carver Branch Library.

Settlers of Catan

Adults, stop by Eden Park Branch Library at 5:30 p.m. Monday for a game of Settlers of Catan.

Hard-core, novice and casual gamers are welcome.

Adventures in Art

The Main Library’s Adventures in Art series continues at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Children’s Storytime Area with Henri Matisse as the featured artist.

Children ages 8 to 11 will read “Matisse’s Garden” by Samantha Freedman, then cut out their own garden from paper.

Birds of prey

Specialists from the LSU Raptor Rehabilitation Center are swooping into the Main Library’s Children’s Storytime Area at 10 a.m. July 14.

The specialists will show off a number of raptors to children ages 4 to 11. All children younger than 9 must be accompanied by an adult.

Paws at work

Join police dogs and their handlers at Carver Branch Library’s meeting room 1 at 10 a.m. July 14 for a crime-fighting demonstration.
