Millsaps awards MBA scholarship to BR student _lowres

Charles Rees, of Baton Rouge, has been named the recipient of the Allison Coggin Lee Scholarship for the 2015-2016 academic year at Millsaps College.

The $12,000 scholarship is the largest endowed scholarship awarded to a Millsaps MBA student, a news release from the college said. The recipient must exemplify exceptional aptitude for graduate business study, exhibit involvement in college and community activities and demonstrate business professionalism and highly developed communication abilities, the release said.

Rees received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Millsaps College in May. He was a Presidential Scholarship recipient and was named to the President’s Scholars List. As an undergraduate, he worked in research and innovation for several start-up companies in the Jackson, Mississippi, area.

He was chosen for membership in Beta Gamma Sigma, the highest recognition a business student can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International –The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

Rees served as team captain for the Millsaps tennis team and received the David M. Halbrook Award for Academic Achievement among athletes. He was named to the Regional All-Conference Team and the Conference All-Academic Team and earned the Major Award, which is given to the player with the best work ethic on the team.

Rees volunteered with tennis groups in the Jackson area, including Brown Elementary School, Mississippi Children’s Home Services and Special Olympics Mississippi.

A member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Rees served as recruitment chair, head of the fraternity’s judicial council, alumni relations chair and warden. He was a member of the Catholic Student Association.
