The LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business will be one of six universities participating in Deloitte’s Case Study Seminar on April 1-2 at Deloitte University in Westlake, Texas.
Five accounting majors from LSU will represent the college — Ellie Bowen, of Shreveport; Ethan Collins, of Prairieville; Megan Kuether, of Beaumont, Texas; Ryan Lachney, of Baton Rouge; and Rebecca Werdine, of Tampa, Florida. They were chosen based on their performance in the Deloitte case study seminar held at LSU as part of their Cost Accounting Class.
The other five universities are Brigham Young University, Florida A&M University, Miami University of Ohio, the University of Missouri and the University of Notre Dame.
A $2,000 scholarship is awarded to each participant on the winning team, a $1,000 scholarship to each member of the second-place team and a $500 scholarship to every other student who participates in the program. In addition, Deloitte provides institutional awards, with $10,000 to the winning team’s school, $5,000 for second place and $2,500 for each of the four remaining schools.
The format of the national seminar is each student group works with a Deloitte adviser and a faculty adviser to identify issues and develop a plan for how they will research the issues, develop a solution and prepare a presentation regarding their case.
The six student groups present their cases and solutions to a panel of active and retired partners who act as senior management or the audit committee of a client. The panel then raises questions and issues for response and discussion.
