BREC is hosting “A Night of Ella With Quiana Lynell” at 7 p.m. Friday at its Independence Park Theatre, 7800 Independence Park Blvd.

The event features the vocal talents of Quiana Lynell, showcasing more than a dozen of Ella Fitzgerald’s most famous hits, including “A Tisket, a Tasket,” “How High the Moon,” “That Old Black Magic” and “They Can’t Take That Away From Me.”

Artistic crafting for teens

Join the Bluebonnet Library staff for teen crafts next week, starting with rainbow bracelet making at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Bluebonnet Regional Branch of the East Baton Rouge Public Library, 9200 Bluebonnet Blvd.

Create bracelets out of rubber bands with rainbow looms or create collage self-portraits July 29, also at 2:30 p.m., or come create an artistic rendition of a self-portrait with either a printed selfie or freehand drawing.

Soccer sign-up ends soon

Fall soccer registration ends Aug. 8 at Southside YMCA.

The Y’s youth sports leagues are designed for children of all ages and stress development of skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and positive competition.

Players need to supply their own shin guards and rubber cleats or athletic shoes. The YMCA will provide all other equipment.

Practice is one night per week with one game on Saturdays. Practice and games will be held at Southside YMCA, Glasgow Middle School or surrounding schools.
