Twenty-three teams from Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi competed Saturday in the Red Stick Rumble Robotics Festival and Competition at Woodlawn High School.

This year’s game challenge was ‘aerial assist,’ where robots had to pass, kick or toss a large ball into a goal.

Robots worked in alliances of three to score, but teams were shuffled around randomly for the qualification rounds. Each team has six weeks to build its robot, starting in January. The robots are then used in competitions in March and April; the Red Stick Rumble is the only ‘off-season’competition in Louisiana, and gives the students another opportunity to use their skills.
